Simple Cake Pops

Traditional Ukrainian borsch


  • 1 box Cake mix
  • 1/2 package Frosting
  • 24 oz Candy melts
  • 25 sticks or straws


  1. Bake cake according to package instructions
  2. Let cake cool completely
  3. Cut off sides of cake
  4. Using the paddle attachment in an electric mixer, or by hand, break down cake into small crumbs, as small as possible
  5. Add frosting, combine until completely smooth
  6. Refrigerate for 15-30 minutes
  7. Form ping pong size balls with hands, or molds
  8. Place back into refrigerator for additional 15-30 minutes
  9. Melt 6 oz candy melts into melting pot
  10. Place tip of straw or stick into candy melt and place into the balls on the flattest side
  11. Place back into refrigerator for 5-10 minutes
  12. Prepare Styrofoam by poking holes with a straw for cake pops to stand, or parchment paper for flat pops
  13. Melt remaining candy melts
  14. Working with one cake pop at a time, dip into candy melts, let excess chocolate drip off
  15. Place cake pops onto stand or parchment paper
  16. Refrigerate as soon as possible, for at least 1 hour
  17. Serve as desired
